Six JCO Employees Arrested

In the evening of 11 October 2000, Ibaraki Prefectural Police arrested Kenzo Koshijima, then chief plant manager, and five other key figures in the manufacturing division of JCO Co. at the time of the criticality accident (Sep. 30, 1999) on charges of professional negligence resulting in injury and death. Two of the three employees seriously injured have died, and at least 439 were exposed to radiation due to the accident. JCO (as a corporation) and former president Hiroharu Kitani are being investigated as well on suspicions of violating the Law for the Enforcement for the Regulation of Nuclear Source Material, Nuclear Fuel Material and Reactors. The Police plan to arrest them as well.
