Background
On 9 December 2006 Congress passed an amendment to the US Atomic Energy Act to enable nuclear cooperation between the US and India. Allowing India, which conducted nuclear tests in 1974 and 1998, to engage freely in nuclear trade would have a profoundly negative impact on efforts to prevent nuclear proliferation. Fortunately, there is still time to stop the US-India deal from proceeding. This meeting will contribute to efforts around the world to get members of the Nuclear Suppliers' Group of countries to block the deal.
